The remnants displayed are forms of documentation and mark making created by performing “play”. Play requires freedom and creativity. It is a way to learn and to grow. But what happens when play is institutionalized? When it is systematic and controlled? When it is supervised so much that freedom is smothered, coddled to ensure its surrender, suffocated by the grip of the institution?
This series is a way of exhibiting what it means to make a mess and be stuck, and the liberation that can come from it. Developed from a place of political and social turmoil, this body of work including Make it stick, don't get stuck and Falling Time, Fall in Line, challenges what we know about play and the effect it has on our society’s present and future.
